Women's Soccer Drops a 1-0 Contest at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Malone University women's soccer team fell to Cedarville University on a warm Thursday evening in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. The Pioneers and Yellow Jackets had defensive battle that ended in a 1-0 contest in favor of the Yellow Jackets. 

Malone (2-3-1, 1-2-0 G-MAC) and Cedarville (4-1-2, 2-0-1 G-MAC) went back and forth in a scoreless first half. An early Yellow Jacket shot attempt at 4:29 was saved by Amelia Henderhan (2-3-1) that started action in the contest. The lone shot attempt by the Pioneers came from the foot of Emily Bayles at 28:34. Another attempt on goal from Cedarville came at 36:53 but was saved again by Henderhan. The Pioneer defense held strong, led by Eliza Wills, and kept Cedarville off the scoreboard to end the half. 

The second half continued to be a defensive battle for both squads. Cedarville had a corner kick and shot attempt in the 71-minute mark but the Pioneer defense held strong and kept the game tied at 0-0. The Yellow Jackets broke the tie at the 86-minute mark after a penalty kick got past the outstretched arm of Henderhan and took a 1-0 lead. 

Cedarville held the shot advantage over Malone by a 17-1 mark. Henderhan finished the contest with a game-high five saves. The Yellow Jackets led the contest in corner kicks with seven. 

Malone returns to action at home against Lake Erie College on Saturday, September 19 at 12:00 P.M. for Homecoming action on FloCollege.
