CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's lacrosse team lost to cross-town rival Walsh University 21-8 on Friday evening. The Pioneers drop to 1-12 on the year while the Cavaliers improve to 6-7. In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), Malone falls to 1-7, and Walsh stands at 5-2.
The first period was tough for the Pioneers as the Cavaliers took the quarter with a 9-0 goal run to start the game. Walsh outshot Malone 22-4 in the period and took control of the faceoff X, winning 90% (9-for-10) at the line.

In the second quarter,
Liam Sullivan netted the Pioneers' first goal of the night off a pass by
Ramsey Burnard with 6:13 remaining in the half. Malone struggled to find possession throughout the period as they recorded eight turnovers. The Pioneers went into halftime with a 14-1 deficit.

In the third period,
Quincy Dumarce ended the goal drought for Malone at 11:35 to make the score 15-2. Not long after,
Darek Smith scored twice, with Burnard earning a goal in between. The Pioneers finished the period having 75% (6-for-8) of their shots on target.Â

The Cavaliers kept the pressure all game as they went up 17-5 to start the final period.
Jackson Lintner added his name to the scoring list, with two goals for the Pioneers. Late in the quarter,
John Mautz III added to the Pioneers' score with 5:20 left in the game. At the final whistle, Walsh came out with the win by a score of 21-8.Â

The Pioneers' offense was led by Lintner (2) and Smith (2), followed by Mautz III (1), Dumarce (1), Burnard (1), and Sullivan (1).
Ty McCort and
Zack Barerra led Malone's defense, recording three caused turnovers each.
Goalkeeper
Zach Johnson (0-5) recorded his fifth start in the goal for the Pioneers and finished the night with a 41% (10-for-24) save percentage.
Andy Lopez took over in the second half and ended the night with a 50% (7-for-14) save percentage between the pipes.Â

The Pioneers will look to move forward as they host the Lake Erie College Storm on April 10 for Senior Day and for another Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup at 3:00 P.M.Â
