Walsh Wins Against Malone 13-6

CANTON, Ohio - On a brisk Wednesday afternoon, the Malone University baseball team lost to Walsh University in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) game by a score of 13-6. The Pioneers have now lost five in a row and fall to 16-14 overall and 5-10 in conference play. The Cavaliers are back at .500 with a 14-14 mark and 9-6 record in the G-MAC.

Four free passes in the first inning helped to put Malone up 2-0 in the first. Shane Coblentz had an infield single for the team's only hit in the frame. Zach Root drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Vincent Alvarez had a bases loaded walk to plate a second. Walsh would answer with a crooked number in the second and claim a 5-2 lead. The Pioneers had four hits in the second and got one run back via a Coblentz RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, Malone evened the score with RBI singles by Charlie Roberts and Doran Mast. As quickly as the team got back into it, the Cavaliers got back out in front. They scored six in the top of the fourth to go up 11-5, all with two outs. Three straight hits to begin the fifth and a sacrifice fly added two more to the ledger at 13-5.

A ball lost in the sun dropped for Reilly Tyna for an RBI single in the fifth, but from there the offenses would go quiet. Reliever Jackson Schwalbach had a great appearance with five innings of shutout baseball. He allowed just three baserunners (two hits, one walk). Ashton Snyder (1-3) was on the bump for the first 3.2 innings and received the loss. He struck out two batters.

The Pioneers will look to take one from Walsh in the series finale on Wednesday, April 8 at 12:00 P.M.
