CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University baseball team was swept by Walsh University with an 8-7 loss in the series finale on Wednesday. The Pioneers are now 16-15 overall and 5-11 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) action. The Cavaliers improve to 15-14 and 10-6 in league play.

Malone struck first with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. All four scores came with two outs.
Reilly Tyna,
Zach Root,
Layne Keller and
Rafe Bonifay had RBI hits for the team. A bases loaded walk and two-run single for Walsh in the second inning cut the lead down to 4-3.

From there, the Cavaliers rattled off one in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to claim a 7-4 advantage. The Pioneers loaded the bases on a
Colin Coblentz single,
Doran Mast double and
Shane Coblentz reached on a catcher's interference, then Tyna delivered an RBI on a sacrifice fly to make it 7-5. Walsh answered with a solo homerun in the seventh to increase their lead to 8-5.

A wild pitch and throwing error on a failed pickoff plated two for the Pioneers in the bottom of the seventh, but the offense stalled out in the 8-7 loss. Malone outhit their opponents 10-7 in the game.

Mast, Tyna and Root reached base three times in the game, with multi-hit games credited to Mast, Root and Bonifay.
Finn Schmitt started the game on the bump and surrendered four runs in two innings.
Gage Faraguna (0-1) went two innings as well and the longest relief appearance for the Pioneers belonged to
Aydan Manning at 4.0 innings of work.
