#9 Seton Hill Downs Men's Lacrosse

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's lacrosse team lost to the nationally-ranked #9 Seton Hill University Griffins at home 25-5 on a warm Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 1-11 on the season, while the Griffins improve to 9-2. In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), Malone falls to 1-6, and Seton Hill remains perfect at 6-0. 
 
The first quarter was all Griffins as they scored 10 unanswered in the period. The Pioneers struggled on the field with a 20% (1-for-5) clearing rate in the first. Seton Hill dominated at the faceoff X, winning 81% (9-for-11) at the line. 
 
In the second quarter, Quincy Dumarce caused a turnover on a Griffin's clear at 9:21 and took it to the cage to get Malone on the board. In the last 30 seconds of the period, the Pioneers took advantage of a Seton Hill turnover, which led to Darek Smith finding Liam Sullivan in the crease for a quick stick goal before finishing the half. Although Malone was down 14-2 at halftime, the Pioneers held the Griffins to zero goals on two extra-man opportunities in the period. 
 
The third quarter was all Seton Hill as they held Malone's offense to zero goals in the period. The Griffins managed to extend their lead to 21-2 going into the fourth. Seton Hill outshot the Pioneers 26-3 in the period. 
 
Within the first minute of the fourth quarter, Sullivan would earn his second goal on the day off a pass by Dumarce to make the score 22-3. Later in the period, Ramsey Burnard would add two more goals for the Pioneers to make the score 24-5 with 9:32 left in the game. The Griffins came out of Pioneer Park with a 25-5 victory over Malone at the final whistle. 
 
The Pioneers' offense was led by Burnard and Sullivan, with both of them recording two goals each, followed by Dumarce with one goal. 
 
Goalkeeper Zach Johnson (0-4) recorded a 36% (8-for-22) save percentage between the pipes. Andy Lopez took over in the second half with a 57% (15-for-26) save percentage in the crease. Nick Sanderson caused four turnovers defensively.
 
The Pioneers will look to defend Pioneer Park on April 8 as they host their cross-town rival, the Walsh University Cavaliers, in another Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match-up at 6:00 P.M.
