Pioneers Compete Against Division I Competition at Bucknell; Fill Leaderboard at Mount Union

LEWISBURG, Pa. & ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Malone University track & field team competed in both the Bison Outdoor Classic and John Homon Open at Bucknell University and the University of Mount Union on Saturday.
 
At Bucknell, Tyler Twining just missed a personal best mark in the 800-meter run with a 20th-place time of 1:52.89. Xander Heil ran a 3:53.28 in the 1500-meter run and Yahya Jawadi led the way for the Pioneer men in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 9:58.89. On the women's side, Kristin Yeager was 30th overall in the 1500-meter run at 4:47.41 while Jenna Cassidy (35th) was clocked at 11:41.84 in the 3000-meter steeplechase and Brooklyn McIntyre ran a 2:18.71 in the 800-meter run.
 
In additional action at Mount Union, Malone tallied three event wins and several other top finishes. Caden LaRue was P1 in the 1500-meter run at 4:04.40. Allea Graves was victorious in the 400-meter dash at 55.31 seconds and Phil Stupka was atop the podium in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.71 seconds.
 
Graves (24.90 seconds) and Stupka (21.58 seconds) were also runners-up in the 200-meter dash events. They were joined by Otani Ekpe in the 110-meter hurdle finals at 15.01 seconds and Gavin Tribelo in the shot put at 15.16 meters (49' 9.00") as second-place finishers. The 4x100-meter relay team of Amber Morris, Abigail Blaz, SaRae Johnson and Graves just missed the top spot in the results as well with a time of 48.50 seconds. That same relay squad also placed fourth in the 4x400-meter event (4:04.00).
 
In the women's shot put, Isabelle Perry had a best throw of 11.98 meters (39' 3.75"), good for third. Fourth-place finishes were awarded to Rachel Whetstone in the 1500-meter race (4:59.06) and Caden McClure in the pole vault (4.76 meters / 15' 7.25"). McClure's score is tied for the eighth-best mark in program history. Bryant Thompson was fifth in the 400-meter dash at 49.43 seconds.
 
Up next, the Pioneers are in action at the Sparky Adams Invitational on April 18.
