AUBURNDALE, Fla. - In their penultimate game of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, the Malone University baseball team was defeated by the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans by a score of 11-5 on Monday morning. The loss puts the Pioneers at 10-3 overall while California is now 6-3 overall.

Each team scored once in the first inning, both of which on RBI doubles. For Malone, it was
Colin Coblentz and
Shane Coblentz that went back-to-back on two-base hits to plate a run. A walk, double and error put the Vulcans back on top in the second inning 4-1 and the lead grew all the way to 7-1 by the time the fourth rolled around.

Robert Gumino sparked some two-out life into the offense in the fifth with a single followed up by a triple and double by
Colin Coblentz and
Shane Coblentz. California responded again and scored four more to make it 11-3 with Malone taking their last round of at-bats.
Rafe Bonifay,
Doran Mast and Gumino loaded the bases with singles and
Shane Coblentz drove the former two in with a two-run single himself to get to the 11-5 final tally.

Shane Coblentz was the standout offensively at 3-for-4 with four of the five runs batted in.
Colin Coblentz, Mast and Gumino had multi-hit days as well, each of them at 2-for-4. On the bump,
Jackson Schwalbach (0-1) pitched the first two innings and allowed two earned runs.
Landon Homan did the bulk of the work out of the bullpen with four innings of work and tied for the team lead with
Gage Faraguna with three strikeouts.

The spring break trip ends for Malone baseball with a rematch against the Concordia University, St. Paul Golden Bears on Tuesday, March 10 at 11:00 A.M.
