Malone Overwhelms Davis & Elkins

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's lacrosse team secured its first win of the season over the Davis & Elkins College Senators, 15-7. The Pioneers improve to 1-6, and the Senators fall to 1-5 on the season. In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), Malone stands at 1-1 while Davis & Elkins starts at 0-1.

The first quarter was hot for the Pioneers as Jackson Lintner scored the first goal to give Malone an early 1-0 lead with 11:54 remaining. Not long after, Ramsey Burnard found the back of the net from a pass by John Mautz III. With 2:11 left in the period, Lintner tallied his second goal with an assist by Mautz III. Linter scored his third goal on the day at 1:35 off a pass by Quincy Dumarce. With 30 seconds left, Liam Sullivan got himself on the board from an assist by Burnard to give the Pioneers a 5-1 lead to end the first.

In the second quarter, Malone continued the offensive pressure with a goal from Burnard, connecting on a pass from Dumarce to make the score 6-2 with 6:37 left in the half. Mautz III took himself to the cage to find a goal with 2:04 to give the Pioneers a 7-3 lead going into halftime. Malone finished the first half having outshot the Senators 26-15.

The third period was not different for the Pioneers as Dumarce scored his first goal of the day with 10:50 remaining. Davis & Elkins tried to find an answer, but Burnard scored for the third time at 5:05 remaining in the third. Sullivan added to Malone's lead with a goal from a pass by Andrew Scott to give the Pioneers a comfortable 10-4 lead with 4:46 to go in the period. Burnard found his fourth goal on the day at 3:56 from an assist by Dumarce to give Malone an 11-4 lead going to the fourth.
 
The fourth period was all Pioneers, as Dominic Robbins scored his first goal of the game with 11:31 remaining. Robbins struck again at 10:06 with his second goal to extend Malone's lead. Shortly after, AJ Neis scored his first goal of the game with 9:37 left in the game. With 10 seconds left in the fourth, Kenny Smith was able to find the back of the goal to completely seal the Pioneers' victory at 15-7.

Malone's offense was led by Burnard with four goals, followed by Lintner (3), Robbins (2), Sullivan (2), Neis (1), Mautz III (1), Dumarce (1), and Smith (1).

Nick Sanderson led the Pioneers' defense, recording six groundballs and three caused turnovers. At the X, Ty McCort went 72% (8-for-11), Nick Grover went 80% (8-for-10), and Alex Lavalle went 75% (3-for-4) on faceoffs. Andy Lopez (1-3) picked up the win in goal with five saves in the first 30 minutes. Zach Johnson did the same despite allowing one more goal than his counterpart.

The Malone University men's lacrosse team will continue its Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) action as they host the Tiffin University Dragons on March 10 at 2:00 P.M.
