Men's Lacrosse Defeated by Tiffin

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's lacrosse team lost at home to the Tiffin University Dragons 13-6 on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 1-7 on the year while the Dragons improve to 3-2. In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), Malone drops to 1-2, and Tiffin starts 1-0.

The first quarter started close between the two teams as Ramsey Burnard would answer for the Pioneers first on a man-up opportunity, assisted by Quincy Dumarce to cut the Dragons' lead to 2-1 with 6:39 left in the period. Then, with 5:53 remaining, Darek Smith took it to the cage to tie the game 2-2 in the first. Tiffin answered back with a 2-0 goal run to finish the period with a 4-2 lead over Malone.

Within the first minute of the second quarter, Dumarce scored quickly off a pass from Smith to have the Pioneers only trailing 4-3 to start the period. The Dragons didn't back down as they managed to get a three-goal lead until Andrew Scott found the back of the cage off an assist by Dominic Robbins to make the score 6-4. Towards the end of the quarter, Tiffin managed to end the first half with an 8-4 lead over Malone.

The Dragons continued their momentum in the third quarter as they went on a 4-1 goal run over the Pioneers. John Mautz III was the only goal scorer for the Pioneers with 4:49 remaining in the period. Malone struggled offensively with 30% (3-for-10) of their shots being on target.

In the fourth quarter, both teams only managed to score one goal each, with Malone scoring in the last 25 seconds of the game from a shot by Smith. The Pioneers were outshot by the Dragons 14-5 in the final period.

Malone's offense was led by Smith with two goals, followed by Mautz III (1), Dumarce (1), Scott (1), and Burnard (1).

Andy Lopez (1-5) started in the cage for the Pioneers and recorded a 42% (6-for-14) save percentage between the pipes. Zach Johnson took over in the second half and recorded a 68% (11-for-16) save percentage in the crease.
