MIDLAND, Mich. - The Malone University baseball team defeated the Northwood University Timberwolves in a doubleheader series on a chilly Friday afternoon. The Pioneers won game one by a score of 14-3 and won game two with a score of 5-3.

Malone now stands at 16-9 on the season while the Timberwolves fall to 7-17. In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), the Pioneers are now at an even 5-5, and Northwood drops to 4-6.Â

GAME ONE RECAP:
Game one started in Malone's favor as
Shane Coblentz had a double to left center, sending
Colin Coblentz across home plate for an early 1-0 start. The Pioneers cashed in two more RBI's with a single by
Zach Root, and another by
Reilly Tyna to extend their lead 3-0.Â

As the game progressed, the Pioneers had a 5-2 lead over the Timberwolves until
Colin Coblentz delivered a homerun to right field at the top of the sixth to provide a comfortable 6-2 Pioneer lead. In the top of the seventh,
Rafe Bonifay picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice, as
Vincent Alvarez crossed home plate.
Malone put the game away in the ninth with five runs on four hits. After
Doran Mast reached second base,
Rafe Bonifay drove in an RBI on a fielder's choice.
Shane Coblentz then took the plate as he nailed a double to right-center, sending
Colin Coblentz and
Charlie Roberts home for a 12-3 lead.
The Pioneers finished game one with a 14-3 victory over Northwood. Malone outswung the Timberwolves 20-6. Pitcher
Jackson Phelps (3-0) went eight inning, recorded seven strikeouts and allowed three earned runs.Â

GAME TWO RECAP:
Game two started close, as both teams kept the score to one run until halfway through the top of the fifth when Tyna singled, leading
Colin Coblentz around third and across home plate for a 4-2 Pioneer lead. Northwood was unsuccessful in the inning as they suffered two fly outs and a groundout by Malone's defense.
In the top of the sixth,
Colin Cobletnz sent
Robert Gumino to home plate off a triple to right field to extend their lead 5-2. The Timberwolves managed to earn one run at the bottom of the seventh before being defeated 5-3 at the end of game two.
Colin Coblentz and
Doran Mast led the pioneers in scoring as they both recorded a pair of runs each, with
Robert Gumino following behind with one run. Pitcher
Shane Coblentz (4-2) threw a complete game on the mound with four strikeouts.
