Softball Takes Two Against Thomas More

CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University softball team won their doubleheader games against Thomas More University, 10-2 and 3-1. The Pioneers jump to 16-6 overall and 5-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The Saints are now 11-15 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
 
GAME ONE RECAP:
Mia Rose started the game throwing three strikeouts in inning one. Malone was then able to get the ball rolling in the bottom of the second with eight runs. A single from Jessie Crookston started the inning and a sacrifice bunt from Amber Miller put runners on second and third. Aricka Young hit a double to bring in Crookston and Masyn Baker to make the score 2-0. A double from Halyn Cawthorne then brought Young home for run three. Another double for the Pioneers came from Marlee Pireu to put them up 4-0. Sidney Conti had a base hit to plate one runner and a home run from Rose brought in three RBIs to take an 8-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the third, Malone scored their ninth run off an error by Thomas More. Conti had a base hit to bring Pireu home for a 10-0 score. The Saints were left with one on base in the top of the fourth after back-to-back strikeouts from Rose. In the top of the fifth, Thomas More attempted a comeback by scoring two runs, but fell short to end the game at 10-2.
 
Pireu, Conti, and Young each went 2-for-3 at the plate and Conti and Young ended with two RBIs each. Rose (9-3) had three RBIs and pitched seven inning with seven strikeouts. The Pioneers had ten total hits on the game while Thomas More had six.
 
GAME TWO RECAP:
To start game two, Summer McCaw had back-to-back strikeouts in inning one. In the top of the third, the Saints threatened but another strikeout from McCaw would hold them to zero runs. McCaw then hit a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the third to put Young on second. After an error from Thomas More put runners on first and third, Pireu homered to bring in three runs for Malone.
 
In the top of the fourth, the Saints put one run on the board to make it 3-1 on an error. McCaw was able to hold Thomas More in the top of the fifth with back-to-back strikeouts again. The Saints left the game with one on base to make the final score 3-1.
 
Morgan Cantrell went 2-for-3 and Pireu left with three RBIs. McCaw (4-1) pitched seven innings with nine strikeouts and zero earned runs on her ledger.

The Pioneers will host Ohio Christian University on Tuesday, March 31 for a doubleheader. First pitch times are 11:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M.
