CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University baseball team won their non-conference game against Lake Erie College 1-0 on Wednesday. The Pioneers are now 14-9 overall and the Storm is now 4-19.
Both teams struggled to find the plate in the first five innings.

Layne Keller,
Robert Gumino and
Zach Root had hits, but none came around to score. After two strong innings from
Tate Aljancic,
Ben France entered from the bullpen and left two runners stranded in the third.
Malone would score the one and only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. A sacrifice bunt from Keller put
Reilly Tyna on second.
Doran Mast then hit a double to left field to bring Tyna home to go up 1-0. The Storm attempted to put a run on the board in the seventh,
Blake Close was able to get out of the inning with two left on base.
Jackson Schwalbach earned his first career save on the mound after two strikeouts in the top of the ninth to end the game at 1-0.
Aidan Jordan (1-0) earned his first career win pitching after allowing one hit in two innings. Mast led on offense going 2-for-3 at the plate and bringing in one RBI. Malone has seven hits while Lake Erie had five.
Up next, the Pioneers travel to Northwood University for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) doubleheader on Friday, March 27. Start times will be at 1:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M.
