Strong Showing for Track & Field at Ashland

02/07/26

ASHLAND, Ohio - On the second and final day of the Jud Logan Light Giver Open, the Malone University track & field team had several top-ten finishes, many improvements to top-ten times, and broke one more school record.

Allea Graves followed up her school-record mark in the 200-meter dash with a record-breaking performance in the 400-meter dash on Saturday. She took more than one second off her previous best mark to set the new school record at 57.13 seconds, a result good for fourth in the event.

Other sprinting highlights saw Phil Stupka move to within .01 of the school record in the 60-meter dash at 6.87 seconds. His time in the event finals was enough for fourth place. Bryant Thompson is now fifth in school history in the 400-meter dash at 49.87 seconds.

Men's distance runners had tremendous success as well. Tyler Twining was eighth overall in the 800-meter run (1:54.91) and the duo of Hayden Schmidt (4:12.64) and Xander Heil (4:13.84) were fifth and sixth in the mile run. Heil's time enters him into the final spot in the program's top-ten list. Wyatt Royster was fifth in the 3000-meter run at 8:58.50.

Two adjustments to the program's shot put records came from Gavin Tribelo and Isabelle Perry. Tribelo was fifth in the elite heat for men's shot put at 15.84 meters (51' 11.75"). That is a new personal best and improves upon the fourth-best score he had already held. Perry is now ninth in school history at 11.66 meters (38' 3.25").

The next event on the calendar for the Pioneers is the NCCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships at Cedarville University. It begins on Friday, February 13.
