Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pioneer Defense Stands Tall for Scoreless Draw

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's soccer team tied with Kentucky Wesleyan College 0-0 on Thursday night. The Pioneers move to 2-6-1 on the season and The Panthers stand at 4-3-1. In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), Malone sits at 1-5-1 while Kentucky Wesleyan bumps to 3-2-1.

The first half started off fast as the Panthers found themselves with a shot at 11:34, but missed top right. Roman Sigafoos found action early with a save in the 21st minute for the Pioneers. The Panthers continued the offensive pressure, but Sigafoos recorded two more saves in the span of 30 seconds. Malone's offense struggled against a tough Kentucky Wesleyan defense as they went into halftime with zero shots.

The Pioneers looked to change things up in the second half with a shot by Drew Kapsak, but could not come up with a goal. In the 64th minute, Julius Eckmann and Andrew Walubengo both had an opportunity to get Malone on the board but the Panther defense was able to make both stops. Kentucky Wesleyan tried to get on the board with a penalty kick at 82:14, but Sigafoos made the right read and secured a crucial save for the Pioneers. At the final whistle, both teams came out of tonight's 0-0 matchup to add a tie to their records.

Goalkeeper Sigafoos (1-2-1) had his first start tonight in goal for Malone and recorded a clean sheet with six saves on the night. Sigafoos, Ryan Ziskowski, Camden Albertson, Eckmann, and Kapsak stayed on the pitch for the full 90 for the Pioneers.

The Malone University men's soccer team will be back in action on October 3 as they travel to Bridgeport, West Virginia, to take on the Salem University Tigers for an out-of-conference matchup. Kickoff is at 2:00 PM
