Women's Soccer Fall in a Contest Against #6 Ashland

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University women's soccer team (3-5-2, 2-4-1) dropped a 3-0 home contest against #6 ranked Ashland University (8-1-2, 6-0-1) on a warm Thursday evening. The Pioneers fell to the Eagles in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

The first half opened with Ashland finding the back of the net at 6:21 and made it 1-0. Three minutes later the Eagles added a goal and extended the lead to 2-0. The Pioneers battled with a shot from Emmilina Miller to attack the Eagle defense. Another Pioneer shot from Raegan Radel helped Malone on the offensive attack. The Malone defense held firm with Amelia Henderhan and her two saves before the end of the first half. 

 

Emily Bayles began the second half with a shot to keep Malone on the attacking end. Henderhan and the Pioneer defense helped to keep Ashland off the scoreboard with a save at 49:08. However the Eagles extended the lead to 3-0 after a goal at 69:56. 

 

Jojo Knight leads Malone in goals this season with three and in shots on goal with eight. Four other Pioneers are second in goals this season with one each. Henderhan leads the team in saves this season with 32. Ashland held the shots on goal advantage with a 6-0 mark and in corner kicks 10-2.

The Pioneers will return to action on Thursday, October 8th at 4:00 P.M. against the University of Findlay for more conference action.
