Swim Sweeps Wittenberg; Falls to Wooster in Double Dual

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Malone University swimming & diving teams competed against The College of Wooster and Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon and split the contests in the double dual meet. The Pioneer men (179-54) and women (138-113) were triumphant against Wittenberg, but stumbled against the host Fighting Scots of Wooster, 217-61 and 204-73.
 
The men did not have any event wins, but scored points behind four runner-up marks. Landon Sutter had two of those in the 50-yard backstroke (26.69 seconds) and 100-yard backstroke (56.95 seconds). Sutter was also third in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 58.49 seconds. That time secured the tenth spot in the program record book.
 
Carson Letchworth (59.01 seconds) and Elisha Thompkins (25.56 seconds) had the other two second-place finishes, Letchworth in the 100-yard butterfly and Thompkins in the 50-yard butterfly. Thompkins was third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.43) and 100-yard freestyle (50.16 seconds) as well.
 
Seth McMillen had two third-place times in the 50-yard breaststroke (29.13 seconds) and the 50-yard freestyle (23.39 seconds). Leander Stuart (5:23.19) and Tillman Hawk (11:10.50) were third in their events, the 500-yard freestyle and 1000-yard freestyle.
 
Allea Graves won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the Malone women's team. She had scores of 194.70 in the 1-meter and 190.30 in the 3-meter events.
 
There were five second-place performances for the Pioneer women, led by Elizabeth Lane with two of them. She was runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (25.46 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (56.09 seconds). Lane brought home a third-place mark in the 50-yard butterfly to cap her day.
 
Ashtyn Rickel had one second-place finish and two third-place times. She just missed the top of the podium in the 50-yard backstroke at 29.56 seconds and then was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.33) and 100-yard individual medley (1:04.81). Her time in the later event is fourth in program history.
 
Ann-Katherine Burns had three great individual performances to highlight her day. She was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.38), third in the 50-yard breaststroke (34.03 seconds) and fifth in the 100-yard individual medley (1:07.51). Her time in the individual medley secured a spot in history as the ninth-best time for Malone women's swimming.
 
Danielle Ketler was the final student-athlete to record a top-three finish, as she was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.95.
 
That concludes the regular season for the Pioneers and the team will prepare for the 2025-26 Great Midwest / Mountain East Swimming & Diving Championship. That event begins on Tuesday, February 10 at the C.T. Branin Natatorium.
