LILBURN, Ga. - The Malone University women's basketball team has fallen out of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Coaches Poll, but is still one of six teams receiving votes.
Â
The Pioneers had lost three of four games, but defeated the University of Findlay 73-64 in their most recent contest. The team used an excellent third quarter (24-13) to take the lead and secure the victory. The win puts Malone at 12-3 overall and 5-2 inside the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) and is the 130th in the career of Head Coach
Selana Ickes. Her next coaching triumph would break the program record for most wins.
Â
Irene Maroto got the start at point guard for the Pioneers and played a team-high 30 minutes after some changes by the coaching staff. She was one of four players in double figures, led by
Erin Kaufman with 21 points.
Brinn Hunt was exceptional as well with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds and three steals.
Â
For their next game, Malone plays host to Kentucky Wesleyan College on Thursday, January 15 at 5:30 P.M.
