CANTON, Ohio - In the 2025 season opener, the Malone University women's soccer team recorded a draw with Davis & Elkins College. Neither team was able to net a goal in 90 minutes played for a 0-0 tie. Both teams will enter the second contest of the season with a record of 0-0-1.
Â
The Pioneers took the first two shots of the game, but both missed the intended target. Freshman
Claire Charnock was wide left in the 18th minute and senior
Hannah Hubbard was above the net in the 25th minute.
Â
Junior goalkeeper
Amelia Henderhan (0-0-1) made the lone save in the first half in the 29th minute and the teams went into halftime even. Senior
Camryn Emerling had an opportunity late in the period that went out of play top right.
Â
To start the second half, freshman
Nayeli Cruz had the team's only shot on goal in the 47th minute of play, but the opposing goalkeeper made the save. Henderhan returned serve with a save of her own in the 80th minute to preserve the shutout.
Â
In total, the Senators had only two shots, but possessed the ball extremely well to limit attempts by the Pioneers. Malone had just five total shots and one on-goal. Each squad attempted one corner kick in the match. The Pioneers put together their first shutout of the year after five last season to tie the NCAA DII era record for the program. Henderhan, freshman
Aubree Mellana and junior
Abby Blaz played the entire 90 minutes.
