CLARION, Pa. - The Malone University women's soccer team took the field at Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening in a road contest against non-conference opponent, the Clarion University Golden Eagles. The Pioneers' defense was able to stand strong late and preserve the late road win, 2-1. In the win, Malone improves to 1-0-1 as Clarion drops to 0-2-0.

In the early minutes of the half, the Pioneers were able to net their first goal by sophomore midfielder
Raegan Radel, who scored unassisted at the 6:41 mark to go up 1-0. That score was followed by junior forward
Alyssa Schofield in the ninth minute to take a 2-0 lead. Freshman
Nayeli Cruz and senior
Brynn Mowrer assisted on the goal at 8:17.

The Golden Eagles later scored their lone goal of the evening in the 17th minute, but still trailed 2-1. That score would last for the duration of the first half.

The second half featured a tight battle between both teams defensively as neither goalkeepers would give up a goal in the period. Junior goalkeeper
Amelia Henderhan (1-0-1) shined in goal for the Pioneers with four saves for the game, including one on the potential game-tying goal in the 74th minute.

Malone held a slight edge over Clarion in shots at 12-11 and on-goal attempts at 6-5. Defenders
Hannah Hubbard and
Aubree Mellana joined Henderhan with 90 minutes played.

The Pioneers celebrate their first win of the young season behind strong play on both ends of the field. Malone will return home to Pioneer Park to face the Seton Hill University Griffins in another non-conference match on Wednesday, September 10 at 6:30 P.M.
