CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's soccer team competed against the Tiffin University Dragons in a Saturday doubleheader at Pioneer Park. The Pioneers were unable to defend home field in a 2-0 loss to the Dragons. Malone dropped to 0-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) competition as the Dragons improved to 3-1-1 and remain undefeated at 2-0-0 inside the league.

The first half started off as a back-and-forth battle as both offenses worked for the early lead. In the 38th minute, the Dragons struck first with a goal to go up 1-0. The Pioneers fought hard but struggled to put together a strong attack as they only managed one shot compared to Tiffin's nine during the first period.

The second half was once again primarily dominated by the Dragons, but the Pioneers did have a couple strong opportunities late in the contest. Tiffin was able to net their second goal of the day off a penalty kick to make the score 2-0.

Nate Werthmuller led the attack offensively with one shot on goal apiece. Despite an improved offensive effort by Malone, the team couldn't manage to get on the scoreboard. Malone's defense had a handful of strong plays as junior goalkeeper
Sam Cipriano (0-4-0) had six saves.

The Pioneer will look to regroup as they travel to Painesville, Ohio to face the Lake Erie College Storm in another G-MAC contest on Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 P.M.
