The Malone University softball team made the G-MAC Tournament with a 24-18 overall record and 10-14 mark in conference play. As the eight seed, the Pioneers will square off with the top-seeded Tiffin University Dragons in game one on Wednesday at 12:00 P.M. A win means Malone would wait until Thursday to play again, but a loss sets up an elimination game on Wednesday at 5:00 P.M.
The Pioneers needed to take one from the University of Findlay in the regular season finale to even make the postseason. In that doubleheader,
Mia Rose pitched a three-hit shutout and
Lacie Quarles had the go-ahead single to help give Malone a 3-0 win.
Rose and
Allie Weilnau led a pitching staff that had a 2.57 ERA, the second-lowest in the G-MAC. The staff had a league-high 3.47 strikeout-to-walk ratio as well. The senior Weilnau compiled a 14-7 record while in the circle. Along with her abilities as a pitcher, Rose was also dominant in the batter's box. She led the team with a .405 batting average and 1.030 OPS with four homeruns.
