NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's lacrosse team faced off against the Walsh University Cavaliers in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup. The Pioneers struggled to get out of an early hole and fell via a 15-10 final. Malone drops to 5-7 on the year, 3-3 in G-MAC play.
The Cavaliers came out firing as a pair of goals quickly gave them a 2-0 lead.
Ramsey Burnard got the Pioneers on the board but unfortunately, Walsh went on a fiery run to take a 6-1 lead at the end of the first.
Talon Heath took a feed from
Zac Smargiasso and opened the second quarter up with a bang. Walsh continued their onslaught and stretched their lead to eight as they went up 10-2.
Darek Smith scored with seconds left to leave Malone down by seven going into the half.
The Pioneers looked to make strong adjustments to start the second half and they delivered as
Luke Ory rifled home a ringer. While the Cavaliers answered back, Ory and Smith scored again to cut their deficit to five. Walsh continued to find answers as they matched the pair of goals and took a 13-6 lead into the fourth.
Heath scored his second of game to open the last quarter and
Dominic Robbins followed suit. This was the closest the Pioneers would get as the teams traded two goals a piece to end the contest, with Heath and Ory being the scorers for Malone.
Ory and Heath led the Pioneers with three goals a piece.
Wayne Keating forced a pair of Cavalier turnovers.
Nick Sanderson saved thirteen shots for Malone.
The Pioneers head back on the road as they travel to Greensburg, Pennsylvania to take on nationally-ranked #4 Seton Hill University on Saturday, April 5. The opening face-off is slated for 12:00 P.M.
