Women's Lacrosse Shut Out by Cavaliers

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University women's lacrosse team came up short in the regular season finale 19-0 at Walsh University on Wednesday.

The Pioneers remain in contention for the postseason despite the loss with a 10-8 overall record and 3-5 mark inside the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The Cavaliers are now 9-8 overall but a blistering 7-1 in league action. The final regular season games in the conference are scheduled for Monday, April 21 where the field will be set for the G-MAC Tournament.

Malone was outshot 26-4 in the loss, and had 24 turnovers compared to Walsh's 13. The Pioneers brought in more draw controls than their opponents (12-9) but could not convert those opportunities into shot attempts.

The Cavaliers got out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and at halftime, extended the lead to 13-0. The clock remained running for the duration of the game, with Walsh adding on three goals in each of the final two periods.

Regan Blythe secured a team-high four draw controls for the team. Sydney Atkinson had two caused turnovers from the goalie position. Sommer-Jo Grieser (8-8) made three saves.

Should the Pioneers qualify for the postseason, the Quarterfinal game will take place on April 26.
