FINDLAY, Ohio – In the Quarterfinal Round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament, the Malone University women's lacrosse program came up short to the University of Findlay by a score of 14-2. The Pioneers have put together a much-improved season at 10-9 in their second year as a program and qualified for their first postseason tournament. The Oilers advance to the Semifinal Round at 8-10 overall.
The defense was active in the first quarter, however Findlay was able to sneak two by the Malone goalkeeper in the period. The 2-0 lead would grow to 5-0 before
Emma Weintz netted the Pioneers' first postseason goal with 6:55 to play in the second quarter. A late goal by the Oilers made the score 8-1 at halftime.
Findlay further extended their lead to 10-1 through three quarters. Malone struck first in quarter four thanks to a score by
Alana Samek, but the Oilers would add on a few more late in the game in the 14-2 loss for the Pioneers.
Malone was outshot 35-10 in total and the Pioneers were charged with 30 turnovers. Malone was just 11-of-27 on clear attempts while Findlay was 15-for-20. The Oilers won draw controls by a mark of 14-6.
Jorjia Meza caused three turnovers to lead the team defensively.
Sommer-Jo Grieser (8-9) made 14 saves in goal for the Pioneers.
Malone wraps up their second season by rewriting the record book in every category for the program. The future is bright for this young team.
