Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Pioneers Impeach Senators

PHILIPPI, WV. - The Malone University Men's Lacrosse team looked to snap a three game losing streak as they traveled to Philippi, West Virginia to open GMAC play versus the Davis & Elkins College Senators. The Pioneers were electric from start to finish en route to a 24-7 dismantling of the Senators.

Talon Heath started off his afternoon by firing off a pair of goals just two minutes into the contest to quickly give Malone a lead. The Senators answered back but Heath sandwiched two more goals around a Ramsey Burnard goal to put the Pioneers up 5-1. Wayne Keating closed out the quarter with his second goal of the season as Malone found themselves up by five heading into the second quarter.

Davis & Elkins opened up the second quarter with a pair of their own twine rippers. Luke Ory returned to the field by firing home an emphatic goal on a feed from his running mate Heath. While the Senators won the quarter and scored two more, Heath rifled in his fifth goal of the game. The teams headed into the halftime break with Malone up 8-5.

The second half would be all Pioneers as Darek Smith and Kamden Kraft scored within seconds of each other to extend their lead. The run continued as Ory brought home his second of the match. Following continued domination on faceoffs by Kraft, two more Smith goals, a Heath cannon, and John Mautz III first goal of the game left Malone up 15-5. The Senators stopped the bleeding but Zac Smargiasso answered right back. Davis & Elkins scored their last goal of the match in the final seconds of the third quarter.

Malone outscored the Senators 8-0 in the final frame in what was a moment of redemption for the previously struggling Pioneers. Smith, Smargiasso, Heath, and Ory all scored again to round out their days. Burnard fired home two more and he was followed by Dominic Robbins who scored the first goal of his Pioneer career. Mautz III ended the day with one last goal to give Malone a 24-7 victory.

Heath led Malone with seven goals and four assists. Smith followed suit with four goals and three assists. Smargiasso had a pair of goals and a quartet of assists as well.

Kraft dominated at the midline with twenty-three face-off wins and twenty-one groundballs.

Nick Sanderson made his collegiate goalkeeping debut and was electric as he finished with thirteen saves and the W.

Malone is back in action on Tuesday, March 11th as they travel to Grand Rapids, Michgian to take on Davenport University at 7:00 P.M.
