FROSTBURG, MD. - On Tuesday afternoon the Malone University Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Frostburg, Maryland for a non-conference affair versus the Frostburg State Unviersity Bobcats. The Bobcats dominated wire-to-wire en route to a 26-7 victory over the Pioneers.
Frostburg State took control early rattling off five goals in six minutes of game time.
Zac Smargiasso got the Pioneers on the board to cut the deficit to four. While Malone had several opportunities to answer back, the ferocious Bobcats kept the pressure on as they stretched their lead out to thirteen, taking a 14-1 lead into the half time break.
The Pioneers came out with a new fire to open the second half as
Talon Heath and Smargiasso opened scoring with two quick goals for Malone. The Bobcats answered back with a pair of their own to leave things at 3-16 in favor of Frostburg State.
Ramsey Burnard,
Wayne Keating, and
Darek Smith matched a trio of Bobcat goals to bring the scoring to 6-19 through three quarters.
While Smargiasso managed his third goal of the game in the fourth quarter, Frostburg State continued to fire away as they ultimately emerged victorious with a final score of 26-7.
Smargiasso led Malone with three goals while Burnard and Heath followed suit with a goal and an assist each. Keating forced four Bobcat turnovers while
Nick Sanderson forced three of his own.
Alex Lavalle and
Trent Urquhart split time in the net for Malone as Lavalle saved ten shots and Urquhart stonewalled six Bobcat attempts.
The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, March 8th at 1:00 P.M. as they travel to Elkins, West Virginia for their Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener versus Davis & Elkins College.
