Malone Improves Through 36 Holes at Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio – Through 36 of 54 holes in the Ashland University Spring Classic, the Malone University men's golf team is seventh out of nine scoring teams. Nationally-ranked Wayne State University and Missouri S&T are well ahead of the field and are battling it out for the team win among themselves.
 
The Pioneers improved as the day went on. Malone shot a 309 in the first round and cut 12 strokes off their score in the second round with a 297. Jaxon Rinkes is 11th individually after he shot a 147 (74-73) on the day. Rinkes had four birdies the first time through the Ashland Golf Club and was red hot on the back nine in his second round. The sophomore went 3-under 33 and was bogey-free in the final nine holes he played.
 
Ryan Yoder matched Rinkes with a 73 in round two, but was a few strokes back from his teammate in the first round. Yoder completed his outing with a 151 (78-73) and had four total birdies. Zehnder Gibson recorded a 153 (78-75) and Luke Gutman a 155 (79-76) to complete the scoring. Trey Lautenschleger was the fifth member of the Malone team with a 172 (88-84).
 
The third and final round of the Ashland University Spring Classic will commence beginning at 9:00 A.M. on Sunday, March 30.
