Game Recap: Baseball |

Malone Falls at Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Malone University baseball team was on the road on Friday at the University of Findlay. The Pioneers fell to 10-15 and 2-8 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) with a pair of losses to the Oilers (12-11, 5-3 G-MAC).

GAME ONE RECAP:
Malone claimed a 2-0 lead in game one with an RBI double from Jordan Stevens and run-scoring single off the bat of Jake Barker. Findlay countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first thanks to four walks, but the Pioneers extended the gap to 4-1 in the third with a two-run blast by Barker.

The Oilers were able to chase the starter Jackson Phelps from the game in the third inning after five runs came around to score. Anthony Ryan quickly gave Malone the lead back with a two-run double in the fourth to make the score 6-5.

Findlay drew even in the fourth with an RBI double and changed the dynamic of the game with a two-run seventh inning. The Oiler pitching staff held the Pioneers scoreless over the final five innings that led to the 8-6 loss.

Ryan and Barker combined for four of the team's seven hits. Allen Laytart was successful out of the bullpen with three scoreless innings of relief work. Nate Plack (1-1) was saddled with the loss.

GAME TWO RECAP:
The Findlay offense got on top early with two runs in the first and one more in the second. The longball helped the Oilers to widen the lead. Findlay hit a pair of solo homeruns in the third to shift the scoreboard to 5-0.

The heart of the order in Ryan and Stevens had back-to-back hits in the fourth to plate the lone run in game two for Malone in the 5-1 loss in seven innings. Ryan reached base on a one-out single and came around to score when Stevens hit a double to right center field.

Devin Norton (1-4) pitched all six innings and settled in after a tumultuous start to his outing. He was able to save the bullpen for two more games in the series after they ate seven innings in game one. Norton tied a career-high with nine strikeouts. Zach Flohr reached base in all three plate appearances with three walks.
