Women's Lacrosse Extends Win Streak to Four

CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University women's lacrosse team improved to 9-4 overall and 2-1 inside the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) with a lopsided 19-4 victory over Ursuline College (1-5, 0-3 G-MAC).
 
The Pioneers outshot the Arrows 33-13 for the game, including a 16-3 difference in a 9-1 first quarter. Malone netted seven straight goals to begin the contest, two each from Lexi Miller, Meg Ridgway and Cam English. Alana Samek netted her second goal of the game just after the start of the second period and a score from Lela Plouse just before halftime forced a running clock at 12-2.
 
Abbey Burns added third and fourth quarter goals to extend the Pioneer lead to as many as 15 in the 19-4 victory. Olivia Marcantonio, Alexa Wozniak and Adeline Shingleton also found the back of the net for Malone in the second half of the win.
 
The Pioneers were dominant in the draw control circle after they won 20-of-27 for the game. Emma Weintz led the way with 11. Burns caused a team-high three turnovers and picked up four ground balls. Sommer-Jo Grieser had one save and Sydney Atkinson (2-0) made four saves in her 45 minutes of work in net.
 
The Pioneers play four of the final five remaining regular season games on the road, beginning with a matchup at Lake Erie College on Monday, March 31 at 6:00 P.M.
