CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University women's lacrosse team won their third game in the last four days with a 17-3 triumph over Geneva College on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 8-4 overall this season and the Golden Tornadoes are winless at 0-7.
Malone found the back of the net six times in the first quarter and led 6-1 at the end of the period.
Cam English netted three goals and assisted on the score by
Olivia Marcantonio.
Alana Samek and
Abbey Burns had the remaining two scores in the quarter.
Geneva tallied the first goal of the second period, but it was all Pioneers from there. Malone rattled off six in a row to end the half and eight goals straight in total when they moved into the third period.
Lela Plouse and
Emma Weintz were new point scorers for the team during that run. The teams would trade goals to conclude the third quarter with Malone ahead 15-3.
English assisted on goals by Weintz and Burns late in the blowout to seal the 17-3 victory. The Pioneers outshot the Golden Tornadoes 31-8. 24 of the 31 attempts for Malone were on-goal. Weintz had 7-of-13 draw controls for the Pioneers.
Defensively,
Samantha Williams caused a team-high five turnovers and scooped up six ground balls.
Sommer-Jo Grieser (7-4) made one save and
Sydney Atkinson had two.
Malone returns to Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play for the remainder of the regular season, starting with Ursuline College at home on March 27. The start time for that game is 6:00 P.M.
