Pioneers Tame Bison 19-3

CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University women's lacrosse team was triumphant against Bethany College on Monday afternoon by a score of 19-3. The Pioneers are now 7-4 on the season while the Bison fall to 1-8.
 
Malone was able to put 22 of their 29 shots on goal and the defense held Bethany to just 12 total attempts. The Bison were just 7-of-16 on clear attempts with 23 total turnovers. The Pioneers were 13-of-17.
 
In the first quarter, Malone claimed a 6-0 lead. Alana Samek had a pair of goals to conclude the frame. Abbey Burns made the most of a man up opportunity early in the period to extend the lead.
 
The gap grew all the way to 9-0 before the Bison were able to tally a score of their own. Burns, Cam English and Meg Ridgway combined for four goals in the final ten minutes of the second quarter to go up 13-1 at halftime.
 
English, Adeline Shingleton and Burns compiled three third period goals. Shingleton's score came on a man up opportunity and a feed by Emma Weintz. Alexa Wozniak added a score with a teammate under penalty in the fourth quarter to help secure the 19-3 win.
 
Burns led the way offensively with seven points (five goals, two assists). English, Ridgway and Samek were credited with three goals apiece. Burns also caused a team-high three turnovers. Weintz was the team leader in draw controls (five) and ground balls (four). Sommer-Jo Grieser (6-4) made two saves and Sydney Adkinson three in goal for the team.
 
The homestand carries on for the Pioneers on Tuesday, March 25 against Geneva College. The start time for that game is 4:00 P.M.
