CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University baseball team continued Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Friday with a doubleheader versus Northwood University. GAME ONE RECAP:
Starting pitcher
Jackson Phelps was dealing early and did not allow a hit until the fifth. He worked around a pair of walks in the first inning and left both runners stranded. In that time, Malone would give him two runs thanks to an RBI single by
Jake Barker and a solo homerun from
Zach Flohr.
Northwood scratched across one run in the top of the fifth and plated four more in the sixth to chase Phelps (3-1) from the game after 5.1 innings. Northwood added three more runs in the seventh to go ahead 8-2. A two-out RBI double from
Allen Diaz in the eighth got the teams to the 8-3 final score.
Diaz had two hits in the game.
Eric Baum and
Jordan Stevens were able to reach base twice with the help of walks.
Ayden Hall was effective out of the bullpen with two scoreless innings of relief work.
GAME TWO RECAP:
The Timberwolves began game two with two runs in the first and repeated that performance in the second to claim a 4-0 advantage.
Chris Munoz and

Northwood scored one more in the fifth and three in the seventh to extend their lead to 8-1. Stevens was credited with two hits over the final four innings of play, but Malone was unable to mount a comeback against their undefeated opponents in conference play.
