Malone Smashes Shorthanded Bluffton Squad

CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University swimming and diving team hosted their first home meet of the season on Friday against Bluffton University. Both the Pioneer men's and women's teams won their first duels of the season. The men were victorious 182-10 and the women 158-38.
 
For the women, Ashtyn Rickel finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle, the 200-yard butterfly, and the 100-yard butterfly. Her 11:28.12 time in the freestyle puts her at seventh in program history, 2:20.45 in the 200-butterfly time makes her fourth, and her 1:02.54 time in the 100 butterfly puts her in the nine spot.
 
Ann-Katherine Burns was another top finisher for Malone with a 1:09.79 time in the 100-yard backstroke. She now holds a spot in program history (9th) with her improved 200-yard backstroke time (2:38.22) as well. Also in the top finishers for Malone were Danielle Ketler in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.71) and Avery Young in the 50-yard freestyle (26.13) and 100-yard freestyle (57.81).
 
The men's 100-yard breaststroke resulted in a win for Seth McMillen with a 1:04.76 finish time. Colby Murphy and Landon Sutter also helped the Pioneers to victory. Murphy swam the 100-yard freestyle with a 54.69 finish time. Stutter swam the 200-yard individual medley finishing 2:12.20.
 
Allea Graves had scores of 173.90 in the 1-meter diving and 197.35 in her 3-meter diving debut.
 
The Pioneers will host the Malone Invitational up next. Races will begin Thursday, November 20 at 10:00 A.M. and go through Saturday, November 22.
