Pioneers Post Strong Times on Final Day of Malone Invitational

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University swimming & diving programs finished eighth in both the men's and women's final results at the Malone Invitational. Gannon University swept the men's and women's top team awards.
 
A personal record time of 2:13.19 by Ashtyn Rickel in the 200-yard backstroke set the fourth-fastest effort in the event and set the third-best time in program history. Elizabeth Lane was also a part of the A-final in the 100-yard freestyle. The freshman was eighth overall, but her preliminary time of 54.38 is the sixth-fastest time in school history. Seth McMillen competed in the 200-yard breaststroke A-final with a time of 2:15.46, good for seventh in the event.
 
Other top times for the program included Ann-Katherine Burns in the 200-yard breaststroke and Landon Sutter in the 200-yard backstroke. Burns swam a 2:33.33 and placed tenth overall, but is now fifth in program history in the event. Sutter was tenth as well and just made it on to the top-ten list with a time of 2:01.83.
 
Danielle Ketler scored big points for the team with an eighth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle. She touched the edge in 18:58.68. Other top finishers for Malone included Carson Letchworth in the 200-yard butterfly (17th - 2:06.53), Elisha Thompkins in the 100-yard freestyle (20th- 48.56 seconds) and Tillman Hawk in the 1650-yard freestyle (20th - 18:30.39).
 
That concludes the fall season for the Pioneers and the teams will be back in the pool for the Gannon Double Duel on Saturday, January 17.
