ASHLAND, Ohio - The Malone University women's soccer team traveled to Ashland University on Saturday afternoon for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match against the #15 Ashland University Eagles. The Pioneers gave a valiant effort despite falling to the Eagles, 3-1. Malone falls to 3-5-1 overall and 2-4-0 in G-MAC competition while Ashland improves to 8-2-0 and remain undefeated at 6-0-0 in the G-MAC.

The Pioneers came out focused and aggressive, applying pressure and scoring the game's opening goal inside the opening 20 minutes. Senior forward
Brynn Mowrer was able to net the goal off the assist by freshman defender
Aubree Mellana on a free kick. Despite the early advantage, Ashland answered with their first goal to tie the game at 1-1. The Eagles carried that momentum into a second goal in the period as well to go up 2-1 at halftime. Malone made good work scoring their only shot on goal in the period despite Ashland dominantly outshooting the Pioneers 11-1 in the first half.

The second half was dominated by the nationally-ranked Eagles as they controlled the period with time of possession and shots on-goal. Ashland netted another goal in the period to extend their lead to 3-1. Strong defense would not allow Malone to get a shot off in the period as they led 13-0 in shot attempts in the half.

Defensively, the Pioneers were led once again by their junior goalkeeper
Amelia Henderhan (3-5-1) who shined statistically leading Malone with 10 saves on the game. The Eagles showed their offensive strength attempting 21 corner kicks and 24 shot attempts in the game. Â

The Pioneers will look to rebound on Thursday, October 9 in Columbus for a matchup with the Ohio Dominican University Panthers. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 P.M.Â
