CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University women's soccer team rolled past the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers with a 4-0 thumping at Pioneer Park. The Pioneers advance to 3-4-1 on the season, and the Panthers drop to 0-8-1. Conference-wise, Malone advances to 2-3-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), while Kentucky Wesleyan fall to 0-5-0.
In the first half, the Pioneers quickly got on the board with
Brynn Mowrer scoring the first goal during the 16th minute of the period, assisted by
Aubree Mellana on a free kick. From there, Malone had momentum as
Claire Charnock scored in the 24th minute, assisted by Mowrer in transition. At the end of the first half, the Pioneers recorded five shots while the Panthers finished with nine shots.
Malone continued their domination over Kentucky Wesleyan in the second half with another goal scored by Mowrer in the 64th minute of the match, assisted by
Raegan Radel and
Emmilina Miller. The Panther defense was no match for the Pioneer offense as Miller scored Malone's fourth goal of the night, assisted by
Gracie Ashton in the 78th minute.
Â
Mowrer's five points in a match is tied for the third most in the program's NCAA Division II era and her multi-goal game is the tenth since 2012.
Â
Amelia Henderhan (3-4-1) was a brick wall in the net with seven saves on the night. Both Henderhan and Mellana were key factors in the Pioneers' defense as they stayed on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.
Â
Malone looks to keep momentum rolling as they travel to Ashland University to take on the 7-2-0 Eagles, who are ranked 15th nationally, on Saturday, October 4. Kick-off time is 3:30 P.M.
