Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rally Nearly Completed in 2-1 Loss Versus Findlay

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's soccer team fell 2-1 on Tuesday night in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play against the University of Findlay despite playing a man up most of the match. In the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-9-2 overall and 1-6-2 in G-MAC competition while the Oilers improve to 6-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in G-MAC action.

Sophomore defender Caleb Redding had the first great opportunity on offense for the Pioneers in the 12th minute, but a foul negated a potential score. After losing a player due to a red card in the 13th minute, Findlay was able to break the tie via a penalty kick to go up 1-0 in the 28th minute. The Oilers would sneak in another goal minutes later to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Findlay was able to outshoot Malone 7-3 in the period.

The Pioneers continued to wear down the opponents and held a 10-4 advantage in shots in the second 45. After a near miss by freshman defender Christopher Onye in the 53rd minute, Malone's aggressiveness paid off as sophomore midfielder Bereket Hadgu was able to net his first goal of the season to cut the deficit in half 2-1. The score came off assists by Onye and junior midfielder Konstantinos Panagiotou.

The Pioneers would continue to be on the attack late in the game, but were unable to make up the two-goal deficit. Nine different Pioneers attempted a shot in the game with freshman Ryan Ziskowski and senior Dylan DiPiero leading the offense.

Despite the loss, the Pioneers offense looked more confident in the second period as they were able to outshoot the Oilers 13-11 overall in the game. Defensively, Malone was led by junior goalkeeper Sam Cipriano (1-7-2) who led the match with three saves on the night. He played the full 90 minutes along with Ziskowski, DiPiero, Redding, senior midfielder Mason Gradel and sophomore defender Camden Albertson.

The Pioneers look to take away the positives from tonight's match as they prepare to head to Ohio Dominican University to face the Panthers in Columbus on Thursday, October 16 at 6:00 P.M.
