CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University women's soccer team hosted Wheeling University at Pioneer Park for their 2024 season home opener. Malone defeated Wheeling by a score of 3-1. The Pioneers are now 1-0-1 this season.
Malone started off strong with the first goal of the game in the 7th minute. This goal was completed by
Morgan Ross with an assist from
Brynn Mowrer. Malone was up 1-0 at the end of the first half.
Mowrer secured the Pioneers' second goal in the start of the second half with an amazing assist from
Alyssa Schofield in the 56th minute.
To make the game 2-1, Wheeling scored their first and only goal in the 68th minute. The Cardinals attempted three shots on goal
, Amelia Henderhan had two saves. Henderhan played the entire 90 minutes.
Hannah Hubbard and
Madison Woodward also played all 90 minutes of the game.
The final goal of the game was made during the 89th minute by
Reagan McCourt who received an assist from
Maria Fusillo to extend the lead and secure the victory.
Malone's next match is at Pioneer Park again on Tuesday, September 17th against D'Youville University. Kickoff is at 2:00 P.M.
