Baseball Earns a Hard Fought Doubleheader Split at Hillsdale

Hillsdale, MI-- The Malone University baseball team hit the road, bound for Michigan, aiming to reverse their fortunes after a tough stretch, facing off against Hillsdale College in a four-game series.

They found a spark of optimism by splitting the first doubleheader series, setting a promising tone for the rest of the series.

Game One
Jackson Phelps took the mound for the Pioneers, starting off with a strong performance. He recorded two strikeouts in the first inning and seemed determined to maintain his momentum.

Unfortunately, Hillsdale's Tommy MacLean proved to be a formidable opponent, matching Phelps stride for stride. MacLean delivered an outstanding performance, pitching a full nine innings and conceding just one run.

The Chargers took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Malone quickly responded in the top of the sixth. JC Philippi kick-started the inning with a single to center field, followed by an impressive steal to advance to third base. He then scored on a clutch RBI from Zach Flohr, leveling the score and keeping Malone in the game.

Hillsdale punched back by scoring a run in both the seventh and eighth innings, which proved to be enough to secure them a 3-1 victory in game one.

Game Two
Hillsdale took an early lead in the first inning, scoring two runs off hits and walks. Chirs Munoz narrowed the gap with a solo home run in the fourth inning, making it 2-1.

The Pioneers tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning with a clutch RBI single from Jake Aleman. In the eighth inning, Malone seized the lead with Jordan Stevens two-RBI single, putting them ahead 5-3.

Hillsdale rallied in the bottom of the eighth, scoring a run, but Malone's defense held firm, securing a 5-4 victory.

Pitchers Jacob Rollyson and Michael Paljich delivered strong performances for Malone, while key offensive contributions from Munoz, Aleman, and Stevens propelled the team to victory. The win provided a morale boost for Malone as they looked to carry the momentum into the rest of the series
