Game One
In a commanding performance, Adams State took a decisive victory over Malone. The Grizzlies started strong, holding Malone scoreless in the first inning. However, Malone managed to put up a run in the bottom of the second with a solo home run by
JC Philippi.
Adams State responded emphatically in the top of the fifth inning, exploding for five runs. Key hits from Seth Reker, A. Tauscher, and Christian Ayden Altamirano fueled the offensive surge, putting Adams State in the lead.
The momentum continued into the sixth inning, as Adams State added four more runs to their tally, extending their lead to 9-1. On the defensive side, the Grizzly pitching staff held Malone in check, allowing only one run and limiting their scoring opportunities throughout the game.
In the end, the Pioneer bats struggled only having two hits in the game and they fell by a score of 9-1.
Game Two
The game started with Adams State taking an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, sparked by a clutch double scoring two runs. Malone quickly responded in the top of the second with a solo home run by JC Philippi, tightening the score. This was his second long bomb of the day.Â
It was the Pioneer flamethrower Jackson Phelps who finished with 7 Ks in five innings of work. He was able to keep the Grizzly hitters off balance throughout the game. In the top of the sixth inning the Pioneers managed to tie the game at 2-2 with an unearned run.
Anthony Bartiromo proved to be the hero in the game. After an "8-pitch at-bat, he drove in an RBI single to give Malone a 3-2 lead.
Coach Crank turned to Freshman Pitcher Gage Faraguna to try and slam the door shut. Faraguna achieved exactly that, securing his first career save wearing a Malone Uniform and giving the Pioneers a 3-2 win.
