Pioneers Snatch Road Win at Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio. — The Malone University women's basketball team (14-9, 10-5 G-MAC) defeated the University of Findlay (11-12, 7-8 G-MAC) by a score of 62-60 on Saturday afternoon, February 10 for their second straight win in conference play.

Coming off a tough victory over Ohio Dominican on Thursday evening, the Pioneers traveled to Findlay to face the Oilers for the second time this season. In their first meeting, the two teams put on a show and things went down to the wire but it was Malone who pulled out a 65-61 win in Canton. The Pioneers earned another hard-fought win on Saturday but it did not come easy for head coach Selana Reale and her team.

Both teams played well in the first quarter and exchanged leads several times. At the end of the first quarter, the hosts held a one-point lead. The Oilers tried to distance themselves from the Pioneers and began to pull away, leading by 10 at one point in the second quarter. However, Malone did well to get themselves back in the game through three straight three-point buckets courtesy of Brooklyn Troyer's make and Kyli Horn's pair of threes. The Pioneers went into the half holding a slim 37-35 lead.

In the third quarter, the Pioneers extended their lead and didn't let it go, outscoring the Oilers 13-7. In the final quarter of action, the Pioneers extended their lead to 11 points with over seven minutes to play. The hosts weren't about to go away quietly as they mounted a late comeback and came within a point with ten seconds remaining on the clock and fouled Anna Krupa to try and give themselves a chance. Krupa made her first free throw to make it 62-60. Despite the second free throw not going, Erin Kaufman grabbed the rebound to clinch the road win.
