Tiffin Defeats Malone in Three

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Malone University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of Tiffin University on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 5-20 overall and 2-10 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Dragons improve to 11-11 and 5-6 in the conference.

Tiffin used a .391 hitting percentage in the match to defeat Malone. The Pioneers hit just .208 in the loss with 37 kills and 16 errors in total.

Set one went to Tiffin by a score of 25-15. A seven-point run for the Dragons extended their lead from 15-14 to 22-14 and the deficit was too much to overcome. Freshman Emma Weirich had three kills in the first.

The second set was the best hitting performance for the team on the day. Malone had 16 kills, but ultimately came up short at 25-19. Sophomore Annika Nichols had five kills in the second set and senior Grace Rosko added three.

The Pioneers claimed an early lead in the third set, but 17 kills and just three errors resulted in a Tiffin win, 25-19. An ace by Weirich drew Malone even in the final set, but the Dragons slowly began to outscore the Pioneers and scored seven of the final ten points.

Nichols had a team-high 10 kills with freshman Helaina Edgar serving as the primary setter for a career-high 30 assists. In the back row, senior Macy McCauley recorded 16 of the team's 29 digs.

Next week, the Pioneers return home to face Cedarville University on Friday, November 8 at 7:00 P.M.
