Malone Nets Draw with Kentucky Wesleyan

CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University men's soccer team forced a draw in their 2024 Homecoming and Family Weekend match versus Kentucky Wesleyan College, 2-2.

The Panthers were able to score first in just the seventh minute to gain early momentum. A corner kick set up a scrum in front of the net and the Kentucky Wesleyan student-athlete was able to sneak in into the back of the net for the score.

Senior Christian Piccolotto was able to even the match at one after he received a failed clear and put it in the back of the net from just outside the 18-yard box in the 31st minute.

Just before halftime, the Pioneers were able to take the lead at 2-1. Piccolotto found freshman Caleb Redding inside for the score in the 45th minute of action. For Redding, it is his first career score and the earlier goal was the first of the 2024 season for Piccolotto.

The Panthers recorded the game-tying score in the 71st minute after a free kick from the right side of the pitch was the catalyst for a goal.

Malone, now 3-3-2 overall and 0-3-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), was able to outshoot their Bluegrass State opponents by a mark of 15-10, however six of those ten shots were on goal for Kentucky Wesleyan (6-2-1, 4-1-1 G-MAC). The Pioneers also had a 10-5 mark in corners. In goal, Gavyn Ernst (3-3-2) made four saves. Ernst, Elijah Caparello-Wanless and Braden Lamb played all 90 minutes.

Up next, the men's soccer team makes the trip to the University of Findlay. The Pioneers and Oilers square off on Thursday, October 10 at 4:00 P.M.
