FINDLAY, Ohio – The Malone University men's soccer team traveled to Findlay, Ohio on Thursday to play the University of Findlay Oilers. The Pioneers lost by a final score of 4-2.
To start the match, the Oilers scored the first goal in the fifth minute. Quickly thereafter, Malone was able to make the score 1-1 with a goal in the eighth minute by
Caleb Redding.
Dylan DiPiero set up the scoring attempt by hitting the crossbar on his shot and Redding was able to collect it inside the box for the game-tying goal.
Malone scored their second goal in the 11th minute, which was made by Redding again. He received an amazing pass from
Fraeday Moo where Redding then weaved past Findlay defenders. This made the score 2-1.
Findlay scored their second goal in the 29th minute and their third was made in the 45th minute. At the end of the first half, the score was 3-2 with the Pioneers down.
Malone was unable to score in the second half. To make the final score 4-2, the Oilers scored their fourth goal in the 82nd minute.
The Pioneers had a total of six shots on goal and a total of four saves made by
Gavyn Ernst (3-4-2). Ernst along with DiPiero,
Theo Jackson,
Nate Werthmuller, and
Braden Lamb played the entire 90 minutes.
Malone is now 3-4-2 overall and 0-4-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) and Findlay is 7-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the G-MAC.
The Pioneers next match is back home at Pioneer Park against Lake Erie College on October 12. Kickoff starts at 1:00 P.M.
