PALM COAST, Fla. – The Malone University women's golf team, in their first NCCAA Championship appearance in the team's NCAA DII era, finished third at the national event.
The Pioneers wrapped up play with a score of 972 (322-323-327). Grace College was able to overcome a deficit from round one to win the NCCAA Championship with a score of 950 (320-315-315).
"We had a great week at the NCCAA Championships," Head Coach
Bill Eddins beamed. "Everything about this tournament was first class. The course was the most beautiful we have ever played on. It's a championship-level course and the winds coming off the ocean made it especially challenging. Playing this well as a team was very rewarding. It was a privledge for us to be a part of this championship and we are greatful for the family and friends that support us!"
Sophomore
Maria Warner was selected as an NCCAA All-American with her fantastic week of play. She tied for second overall with a final score of 235 (80-78-77). She birdied the fourth hole on Wednesday and held steady with 12 pars.
"We had an amazing experience competing for a national championship!" Warner explained. "Our whole team had so much fun hanging out on and off the course. We have the best team chemistry! Everyone is encouraging and pushes each other to be our best. I improved each day of the tournament, hit fairways and greens, and stayed consistent each round."
Freshman
Claire Hostetler just missed the cut on becoming an NCCAA All-American with a 10th-place finish at 243 (80-84-79). She had a birdie on the third hole and finished strong with six straight pars. Junior
Erin Strouse fell a little in the third round, but still placed 12th at 246 (78-79-89). She had a birdie on hole eight.
In 16th place was freshman
Addison Burris. She wrapped up the 54-hole event with a score of 249 (84-83-82) and joined the platoon of student-athletes who put together their best scores in round three. She joined Warner with a birdie on hole four. Junior
Savanna Porter rounded out the Malone scorers at 263 (90-83-90). She began her round with six consecutive pars.
That concludes the fall portion of the 2024 women's golf season.
