CANTON, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon the Malone University Men's Soccer team welcomed their rivals, the Walsh University Cavaliers. The Pioneers were shutout and a late second half Cavalier strike dropped the Pioneers to 4-6-2 overall (1-6-2 G-MAC). The Cavaliers moved to 4-7-1 this season and 3-5-1 in the conference.
In a gritty and penalty filled affair, the Pioneers looked to take an early advantage as
Dylan DiPiero had a look that sailed wide. Both offenses struggled as they each only collected four shots. The defense for Malone stood out as
Griffin Owen (1-1-0) collected a pair of saves and successfully shut down the stout Cavalier offense.
The Cavaliers came out of the break with a quick goal in the 62nd minute which proved to be the deciding strike. Owen collected two more saves to finish with four.
Tempers flared with a slew of yellow cards. The teams collected a total of eight yellow cards in the second half, and finished with a final tally ten for the game.
Malone travels to Tiffin, Ohio to take on the Tiffin University Dragons on Thursday, October 24th. Opening kickoff is slated for 2:00 P.M.
