CANTON, Ohio. -- The Malone University women's basketball team (10-7, 6-3 G-MAC) held on to defeat the University of Findlay (7-10, 3-6 G-MAC) by a score of 65-61 on Saturday, January 20 in Osborne Hall.
The Pioneers and Oilers met on a snowy, Saturday afternoon in Osborne Hall. Both teams matched each other shot for shot but it was Malone who led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Pioneers, however, erupted for 21 points in the second quarter and held the Oilers to just 12 second quarter points to go into the half with a 39-28 lead.
The hosts had control through most of the second half and held a 64-51 lead with 4:47 minutes left, but the Oilers took advantage of several Malone turnovers and hit some key shots to go on a 10-0 run across the final four minutes fo the game. With the Malone lead down to three points, the Pioneers feared going to overtime for the second game in a row. However,
Erin Kaufman went to the line and made the game-clinching free throw to ensure Malone would get the conference win. The win is the Pioneers' fourth out of their last five conference games.
Inside the Box Score
Aila Miller scored a team-high 19 points and added five rebounds.
Kyli Horn added 11 points, two assists, and a steal.
Anna Krupa put up 10 points, four rebounds, a steal, and an assist.
Erin Kaufman scored nine points, hauled in a game-leading 13 rebounds, and dished out four assists.
Nataley Armstrong had a solid day, contributing eight points, six rebounds, and six assists.
What's Next
The Pioneers will travel to Cedarville University on Wednesday, January 24 for a midweek showdown with the Yellow Jackets at 5:30 p.m.
