HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Malone University women's basketball team (9-7, 5-3) fell to Hillsdale College (8-8, 4-4) by a score of 71-61 in overtime.
Things were all square after the first quarter of play as both teams were locked up at 13-13. The Pioneers jumped ahead in the second quarter and led 27-23 at the half. The second half was tight as well but a late surge from the hosts set up an exciting finale to the game.
Holding a 57-55 lead, the Pioneers were seconds away from sealing their fourth straight G-MAC contest in a row, but Hillsdale's Lauren McDonald nailed a buzzer-beating jump shot with under a second left to send the game to overtime. In overtime, the Chargers were too much for the Pioneers and pulled ahead to earn a 71-61 win and snap the visitors' win streak.
