Pioneers Grab G-MAC Home Win Over Tiffin

Canton, OH-- After suffering a overtime heartbreaking loss to Walsh on Thursday, the Malone men's basketball team (9-7,2-6 G-MAC) needed to bounce back. They were able to get a big confidence boosting win over Tiffin (9-5,3-3 G-MAC) Saturday afternoon by a final score of 69-61

Both teams were trading baskets to start the game as Tiffin took an early 11-8 lead. Malone was up to the challenge and knocked down back to back three pointers by Biggz Johnson and Jake Bruns to take back the lead. The lead would not be surrendered for the remainder of the first half which saw Malone up 26-25 at the half.

Tahleik Walker got things going to start the third as he cut backdoor on the Dragon defense for the easy two. Moments later Walker assisted Simon Blair who connected on a three. Tiffin kept Blair in check holding him to just 9 points.  The game got tight when the lead was cut down to just one with 12:15 remaining. However, Coach Wallrapps team answered the call. In the end, free throws were big and they were made to close out the game for Malone to walk away with a 69-61 victory.

Fraser LaRocque emerged as a standout player for Malone, delivering an exceptional performance with 16 points and 14 rebounds. His commanding presence in the paint, along with key defensive contributions, played a pivotal role in Malone's success. LaRocque's efforts were complemented by Tahleik Walker, who contributed 15 points and showcased versatility with 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal. Rebounding played a crucial role in Malone's victory, as they out rebounded Tiffin 36 to 34. Second-chance points were a key factor, with Malone capitalizing on opportunities under the basket.
