CANTON – After the Malone University softball team had another doubleheader pushed due to weather, they were able to face Tiffin University on Sunday afternoon for a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) games.

In game one, the Pioneers were unable to capitalize on their seven hits as the Dragons won 6-0.  Game two ended in six innings as Tiffin secured the 11-0 win.

GAME ONE
Elizabeth Dyke got the start in the circle for the Pioneers, she was able to keep the Dragons to just one hit and one walk in the first two innings.

The Pioneers were able to get Taylor Kern and Halyn Cawthorne on base in the bottom of the first but were unable to bring them home after they got into scoring position.

The second inning again saw the Pioneers get runners to second and third but were unable to cross the plate before the third out.

Tiffin scored their first run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third. But the Pioneers defense stood strong for the top of the 4th, with Hannah Offenberger catching a flyball to right field and Dyke striking out two batters.
 
Tiffin scored in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to secure their 6-0 lead.

GAME TWO
Jensen Miller started for the Pioneers for the second game and was able to start the game in a similar fashion. The Pioneers held the Dragons scoreless as they had a quick three-up, three-down first inning and had just two Tiffin players reach base in the second inning.

Miller struck out two in that second inning effort.

However Malone was unable to capitalize on their lone base runner getting into scoring position. 

Tiffin got on the board with a single through the right side of the field with the bases loaded, and scored two before leaving the other two runners stranded at the corners.

The Dragons scored another two in the top of the fourth on a home run straight to center field. 

The Pioneers struggled to get their offense going, and Tiffin was able to score multiple runs in the fifth and sixth.

Their 11-0 lead after six innings meant the game was over under the run-rule.

DETAILS

• In the two games, the Pioneers had six different Pioneers get a hit, with Madi Pukansky and Reagan Smith each notching two hits and both had doubles in game one. 
• Elizabeth Dyke pitched a complete game in the first game, striking out three and only walking one of the 34 batters she faced. Game Two saw Jensen Miller strike out four in her four innings in the circle and Halyn Cawthorne had another strike out in her two innings of relief. 

WHAT'S NEXT
The Pioneers are right back in action tomorrow as they play a doubleheader against the University of Findlay in their rescheduled game from Saturday's weather postponement.

First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1pm at Pioneer Softball Field.
